Valentine's Day can be a drag without that special someone to share it with, although it doesn't have to be. If you're going to be spending this Valentine's Day single, why not treat yourself right instead of relying on someone else? There are plenty of things you can do for yourself to have a good time.
First, try to stay away from places that will put happy couples and the V-day theme right in your face. Romantic restaurants and 'chick flicks' should probably be avoided if you feel like vomiting every time you see couples making kissy faces at each other. If a recent break up has you down stay away from places that remind you of "the Ex". That is rule one: Avoid the unpleasant.
The next step is to do things you like. If you like to hit the slopes, go to the mountains. Stay in your room and play video games all day if that is what makes you happy. As Aristotle said, "Happiness depends upon ourselves." If you force yourself to sit around and do homework then you can't expect to be happy. Rule two: Do what you want.
Treat yourself to something nice. Why not buy yourself a nice dinner or a box of chocolates? At least when you buy for yourself you know you're getting what you like. You could book yourself a massage or give yourself a spa treatment. For a quick and easy pedicure, Mybeautyrecipes.com has a foot scrub that is just ½ cup sugar and two table spoons of lotion mixed together. Massage it into your feet then rinse. Rule three: Be good to yourself.
Why not try something new? Learn to knit or go ice skating. Take advantage of the time you have. Go downtown and explore Main Street or just take a walk and see more of Plymouth. Be adventurous and learn how to ski. The worst that can happen is you find out that it isn't for you, but at least you tried. Something active could be just the thing make your day a little brighter. Exercise releases endorphins into the brain causing a feeling of happiness. Rule four: Take a chance.
Find your single friends and hang out, and then make all your friends in relationships jealous that they weren't there. Order take out and watch movies, go dancing, or if you want have an anti-V-day party. The thing is, just because you're single or your other half is far away, you don't have to be alone. Surrounding yourself with friends is one of the best ways to cheer up. Rule five: Alone doesn't have to mean lonely.
Just because you're single on Valentine's Day doesn't mean can't have fun. Keep a positive attitude and don't let it get to you. It's just a day, don't let it ruin your month. Go out there and have blast.
