It was loud on Tuesday night in the Panther Den, as the Plymouth State volleyball team took on Keene State. In a tightly fought, back-and-forth match, the Lady Panthers unfortunately fell to the rivals, suffering their first Little East Conference loss in the match.
Plymouth came out strong as they confidently took the first set, 25-21. Keene responded by holding the lead throughout a close second set, until PSU tallied six unanswered points tying the game, 24-24. Keene managed to take the next two points, wining the set. KSC kept soaring, winning the third set, 25-26. The Panthers tried to take the Owls down in another close set, but fell just two points short in the end.
Sophomore Kaitlyn Coon (Poestenkill, NY) led the team with nine kills, while junior Jana Nieman contributed seven kills and four service aces. Kirsten Perrotta (Hudson, NH) recorded a double-double with 31 assists and 12 digs. Senior Cassie Pelton (Brookline, NH) took care of things on the defensive end with 22 digs, while first year Katie Sylvia (Lee, NH) contributed another 14 digs.
The Panthers are 10-9 overall. In the LEC, they are tied for third with Keene State at 2-1. This weekend Plymouth will travel to Springfield for the Tom Hay Invitational.
