It is a tradition in May every first Wednesday is proclaimed to be ACES Day (All Children Exercising Simultaneously). Naturally PSU proudly participated in this day for it’s sixth consecutive year and did its part to get the university community out and active.
The HHP department (Health and Human Performance), under the direction of HPER club (Health Physical Education and Recreation), took the initiative by setting up various games and activities on the Alumni Lawn in front of the Hartman Union Building.
For anyone that didn’t get outside that day, it was gorgeous. Junior PE major Zach Thomas said, “I had an awesome day. Most of my teachers had us spend our class time participating in the event and I couldn’t have asked for better weather.”
The games were set up as stations including badminton, bowling, Bag-O, Polish Frisbee, four square, and the big colorful parachute, that isn’t so big anymore that nobody’s seen it since kindergarten.
“I’m really happy with the turnout. Anytime we can get people to be active and have fun doing it, it’s a good day,” said senior PE major and HPER president Kara Ryan
The support that HPER club receives from its professors is great. A majority of them brought their classes up to the event so that they can get in on the activities. Ryan stated, “Our professors are amazing. They really make it a point to encourage us to go to events and conferences. Several of actually just got back from our national conference that Dr. Cucina is currently the president of.”
So if you haven’t gotten outside much yet, make sure you take advantage of the beautiful weather Plymouth has been having. Get out and get active because you won’t regret it. Also make sure to keep your eyes out for the Spring Fling activities going on this weekend including Battle of the Bands on Friday night and of course Dubstep artist Rusko on Saturday night.
