10 SECONDS with Felix Lindeberg

When it comes to the Little East Conference, Men’s soccer is about as close as it gets this year. Plymouth, who finished 3-2-2 in the conference last year, looks to break through and get back to the LEC championship game for the first time since 2008, and nobody adds to the table more than keeper Felix Lindeberg.

Lindeberg, the junior Biology major from Stockholm, Sweden, was named one of two captains for the 2015 season. In 2014, Lindeberg made 75 saves and posted a .758 save percentage, allowing 1.18 goals against LEC conference teams. Posting a .750 save percentage so far this year, Lindeberg took a tough loss in the net against a powerhouse offense in Tufts University, making numerous jawdropping saves and proving that he’s one of the best keepers in the Little East Conference. Lindeberg opened up about his time in the United States and how soccer has affected his life.

When did you first start playing soccer?

I started to play soccer when I was five years old at a gravel field south east of Stockholm. I still remember my first practice.

What influenced you to pursue college in America?

The opportunity to try something new and do something different. It's also a great opportunity to combine athletics and education.

What's the biggest challenge your team faces this year?

Consistency, both on an individual level and for us as a team. In my opinion we can beat all the teams we play, regardless if we are playing the 2014 national champions Tufts as we did on Sunday (9/13). But we can also lose to every team that we play. To be able to preform on a high level, not just in a couple of games, but throughout the entire season, will be key.

Biggest difference between Stockholm and New Hampshire?

Both places are beautiful but in very different ways. New Hampshire has the nature and the mountains that create copious amounts of aesthetic views wherever you find yourself looking. Stockholm is, in a sense, the polar opposite on the spectra. It is a very old and preserved city where some buildings are almost twice as old as the United States. I think I'm getting the best of both worlds.

What was your 'welcome to soccer' moment?

My welcome to soccer moment was my first game in the Panther uniform. I had been injured and was finally ready to play in the biggest game of the season, our first conference game against our rival Keene State. We lost 5-0 and I had 30 Keene fans screaming my name for 90 minutes. I was strongly considering a last minute trip back to Sweden when I was walking off the field just to get a hug from my mom.

How great of an honor is it to be named Captain this year, along with teammate Ted Karl- strand?

Just to be able to call myself a brother of the ball is a great honor, which makes being a Captain an even greater one. Doing together with Teddy is special two since we're both Swedish.

What would I find if I went through your pregame playlist?

You would find Jimmy Barnes "Working Class Man", The Champions League Anthem, some Swedish hip hop and some house music.

Who is your biggest soccer influence?

I don't know if I have a particular person within soccer that is influencing me. I like to watch and study goalkeepers that play with a lot of calmness and never allow a situation to control them. That fascinates me. If you ask me about the biggest sports influence in general, I would say Roger Federer. He has been a role model to me, always having both feet on the ground and being very humble even though he was the best tennis player in the world for a long time.

How nice is it to finally have home games back here at Plym- outh State?

It's awesome not having to feel like a guest at home anymore and travel to the home games. Hopefully more people will show up for our games this year when we're back on campus. Soccer games at Plymouth State are fun. We have a bunch of guys making sure the opponents know where they are. Come watch our games and join the guys at the far side and I can almost promise you will enjoy it. If not, come find me on campus and I'll personally apologize for stealing 90 minutes of your life.

What are you looking forward to most this year?

To compete for the LEC title, see my team play some quality soccer and obviously to go to our stepbrother down south, i.e. Keene State, and get revenge from my last visit.

Felix and the Men’s soccer team hosts LEC opponent Eastern Connecticut this Saturday, before traveling down to Keene State September 26th for a redemption match.
