For The Clock
On Sunday September 13 Plymouth State’s men’s soccer team took on the defending national champions, Tufts University in a home bout on Arold Field. The Panthers put on quite a show of defense against the offense of Tufts but were out played in the end. The first half ended scoreless as Plymouth had two shots on goal to Tufts fourteen. PSU goalkeeper, Felix Lindeberg (Stockholm, Sweden) along with his defense, played exceptionally well stopping all fourteen shots in the first half through every means necessary. Lindeberg himself had five saves while the defense and the goal posts picked up the rest. Tufts offense had three shots bounce of the posts in the first half, one of which came off of a penalty kick after which a sigh of relief was heard from the Panther crowd. As the second half of the match started the tension continued until in the 58th minute when Tufts University striker Zach Halliday, scored off of a header that did not want to go in. The ball bounced and struck the bottom of the crossbar before it finally crossed the line and went in the net. The second half ended with Plymouth having one more shot on goal to Tufts’ eight shots. With this loss the Panthers fell to 2-3 on the season but look to change that on Saturday the 19th as they host Eastern Connecticut State University at 2:30 p.m.
