On Sat. Sept. 26th, Plymouth State University’s Men’s Soccer team took on their rival Keene State at Owl Athletic Complex in Keene, New Hampshire. The match ended in PSU’s favor as the Panthers were able to beat Keene’s Owls 4-2 in an inter conference match. This win went down as the first victory for the Panthers in Keene since 2007 and moved them to 3-3-1 on the season as Keene fell to 3-5 on the season. In the 19th minute of the Match, Plymouth senior Alex Herbert’s (Lexington, MA) shot sailed through the busyness of the box, found the net and went down as the first goal of the game. The first half of the match came to an end with the Panthers leading the Owls 1-0. This lead was not held for long. In the 55th minute, Promise Kpee scored his seventh goal of the season to even the score at 1-1. Plymouth then retaliated, very quickly, three minutes later when Micah Peterson (Fremont, NH) scored on a cross-turn-shot that found the net to give Plymouth the lead. Ten minutes later in the 71st minute, freshman Juan Rivera (Mount Kisco, NY) scored his first goal of the year giving Plymouth the lead they needed changing the score to 3-1. Seven minutes later Keene’s Kpee responded with another goal but the Panthers were able to ward off the Owls in the closing minutes. In the 89th minute with twenty seconds left of the game, Erik Ljunglof (Orebro, Sweden) scored the go-ahead goal giving the Panthers the win at 4-2. Plymouth will return home for their next match as they host Norwich this Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. on Arold Field.
