Women’s Cross Country Improve From Last Year’s Finish in LEC

Saturday afternoon at the Little East Conference Championships, hosted by Keene State College, the Panther women took fifth place overall out of a field of seven, improving one position from last years finish. The fifth place finish was the best finish the women’s cross-country team has had since joining the LEC three years ago.
With a combined score of 120 points the Panthers fell to UMass Dartmouth who had 94 points in fourth place, Eastern Connecticut State University with 92 points in third place, University of Southern Maine with 66 points in second place, In an impressive showing on Saturday at Keene State College, Plymouth State’s men’s cross country team took third place in the Little East Conference Championships for the first time; their best finish since joining the LEC three years ago. The team scored a total of 81 points, which locked them in at third place behind Keene State College with 21 points and University of Southern Maine with 64 points. Led by freshman Sam Brunnette (Newport, VT; 26 minutes 39 seconds) and freshman Warren Bartlett (Loudon, NH 26 minutes 50 seconds), the Panther’s posted their best average time of the season. The two placed and the LEC champions Keene State College who posted a combined score of 15 points. The Panther’s top finishers were Freshmen Lora Giguere (Tolland, Conn) 21st place with a time of 20 minutes 47 seconds, Haley Dennis (Coventry, RI) 24th place with a time of 21 minutes even, Junior Sarah Uhlman (Ashland, Mass) 28th place who posted a time of 21 minutes 13 seconds, sophomore Rileigh Goulette (St. Albans, VT) 36th place who had a time of 21 minutes 32 seconds, and Plymouth’s fifth runner, Danielle Ahern (Chelmsford, Mass) 37th with a time of 22 minutes 7 seconds.
The Panthers now look to compete this Saturday at the ECAC Division III Championships hosted by Williams College. Last year the team finished 32nd out of 48 teams and look to improve on that this year.
