In a rough day for PSU post-season sports, the women’s soccer team was amongst three teams from Plymouth to lose an LEC playoff game, coming at a 2-0 loss against UMass Boston. Annaliese Schmidt (Newmarket, NH) had a game-high 12 saves on the afternoon for the Lady Panthers, earning the title of an All-Conference goaltender, and senior Emily Bell (Derry, NH) led both sides with five total shots on goal.
Scoring started at the 14:47 mark, when senior Kara Peters scored her first goal of the season to give the Beacons the 1-0 lead. The lead was kept at 1-0 for nearly 75 minutes before Natasha Stibor added the insurance netting with less than two minutes to go. Bell had a huge chance at 82:23, when she was tripped up inside the 18 and a penalty kick was awarded. The shot was saved by freshman keeper Alyssa Fugiel, who made the right guess and deflected the shot low and away.
The Lady Panthers finished 7-9-1 on the season with the loss. Wednesday’s game marked the final collegiate game for seniors Emily Bell, Kaitlin Knoff, Leah Swanson, Casey Chabot, and Meghan Catania.
