The Panthers headed to Mascac conference rival Salem state on Saturday hoping to continue a hot start in inter-conference play.
In a game that saw the Vikings outshoot Plymouth State 38-30 senior goal tender Gordon Ceasar ( Oak Park, Calif.) stood tall, leading the Panthers to a 5-0 lead before allowing 2 3rd period Viking goals to beat him.
The scoring started at 7 minutes into the first period when Junior Michael Economos ( Crystal Lake, Ill.) found the back of the net on the power play for his first goal of the year. That goal was followed by two more in the second period. The first, scored by Josh Woody (Sunderland, Md.) at 9:17 into the second period, was assisted by Andrew Wiig ( Lantz, N.S) who went on to score his second goal of the season at 14:44 of the second on the power play. Sophomore forward Chris Zucarro (Hudson, New Hampshire) and freshman forward Cody Lanceleve (Stewiake, N.S.) continued the Panther scoring in the 3rd, before Salem State found a way past Ceasar. The goal was scored just past the half-way point of the 3rd by Michael Casale. The Vikings Brandon Platt scored again with 5 minutes remaining in the game to bring the score to 5-2.
The Panthers move to 3-1 on the season and remain unbeaten in MASCAC play through their first two conference games. The Panthers next faceoff was against Framingham State Thursday, with score unavailable before press release.
Senior goal tender Gordon Ceasar looks to become unbeaten.
