The Plymouth State Men’s Hockey Team left its mark at Hanaway Rink last Saturday, blowing out the Framingham State Rams 5-1.
Just 1:44 into the first period, Junior Ryan Callahan (Londonderry, NH) was able to slip the puck past Rams goalie Adam Calabrese, putting the Panthers up on the boards early with the assist by Junior Zach Fox (Sandown, NH).
Just seconds into the second period, Tyler Colacchio, a sophomore at Framingham State, was able to tie the game at a 1-1 on a power play goal. Tied and under pressure, the Panthers answered right back with a goal by Senior Josh Woody (Sunderland, MD) to reclaim the lead.
Less than two minutes later, Junior Dan Dupell (Collegeville, PA) tacked on another goal for Plymouth State putting them up a pair of goals over the Rams. It was the ninth goal of the season for both Woody and Dupell, who seemed to build off the chemistry of one another.
With just five minutes remaining in the third period, senior Andrew Wigg (Lantz, N.S.) made it a three-point deficit for Framingham State. From here, PSU seemed to have everything under control, and kept the pressure up on the Rams.
The relentless scoring didn’t end there. With just one minute left Freshman Tim Perron (Northborough, Mass) was able to maneuver the puck into the net, scoring his first goal of the season for Plymouth State. Senior goaltender Gordon Ceasar (Oak Hill, CA) had a remarkable and outstanding 13 saves throughout the game locking down the net, and not allowing the Rams entry for nearly the final two frames.
By the sound of the final horn, the Panthers skated off the ice with another victory making them (17-4-1) overall on the season. Plymouth State currently is 12-2-1 in the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) tied only with Salem State. The Panthers were defeated by Salem State in their last match up, 3-1.
