On Wednesday March 23, Jim Hundrieser announced plans to build a new dorm on Plymouth’s campus to accommodate the bigger incoming classes that will be attending PSU. With the plans looking like the dorm will have a similar setup to that of Langdon Woods, excitement is in the air.

With the reveal of the plans for the new dorm, some reactions of students have been mixed. Part of the plan involves making triples the norm on campus until construction is completed.

“I really don’t like the idea of forced triples,” said Hannah Gentile, a first year social work major. “It takes away our choice of who we want to room with until they finish building, also we as students who are already here won’t be able to experience the dorm as much because they’re catering to the newer students.”

There are some students who are on the other side of the spectrum when it comes to the new dorm being announced.

“I think it’s a great idea,” said Christopher Hohman, a first year meteorology major. “I’m hoping the University gets a chance to expand more, if people want to come to Plymouth, I say they should get that chance.”

Last year, Plymouth State welcomed the largest freshman class to date, and is expecting to match if not exceed last year’s numbers. Because of this, administration has made the decision to expand residential facilities.

“The new dorm building is part of the University’s plan to increase student enrollment,” said Dr. Hundrieser.

After completion it would be open to the student body to choose from in housing selection. The goal is to seek completion of the building by the fall 2017 semester, and if all goes as planned PSU will have another residential door to open for students.
