1. Men’s Hockey (last issue UR) – In a rematch of last years’ conference championship game, the PSU Men’s hockey team defeated Salem State University Saturday 6-5 in overtime last Saturday at Hanaway Rink. Plymouth State scored first with five goals in the first 14 minutes of the game to take a 5-0 lead after the first period. The Vikings came back to tie the game at 5-5 with nine minutes remaining in regulation. Tim Laroque was the hero in OT deflected a pass through the legs of the Salem goaltender for the game-winner.
2. Football (last issue: 5) – In their regular season finale, the PSU men’s Football team defeated Fitchburg State 23-6 at Currier Field last Saturday afternoon. Plymouth State scored on the game's opening drive when sophomore Zack Edwards (Brookfield, Mass) found classmate Mitch Banuskevich (Milford, N.H.) from 14 yards out.
3. Men’s Basketball (last issue: UR)– The PSU Men’s basketball team opened their season with an 84-60 win over Rivier University Tuesday night. The Panthers started to pull away late in the first half and a triple just before the buzzer from junior Collin Sullivan (Plymouth, N.H.) put PSU in front 43-32 at the break. Plymouth State maintained control throughout the second half to win the “Boys & Girls Club Classic” match-up for the fourth straight season.
4. Women’s Basketball (Last Issue: UR) In their “Boys and girls club classic game”, the PSU women's basketball team took a 71-61 win over Rivier University in their season-opener. The Panthers pulled away in the first half thanks to a big second quarter. PSU outscored the Raiders 22-12 in the frame for a 37-23 lead into the intermission. The defense forced 15 Rivier turnovers, which led to 19 Panther points.
Individual Athletes:
1. Tim Larocque (Middleboro, MA)- Men’s Ice Hockey: Larocque, this week’s MASCAC Rookie of the week scored two goals, including a game-winner, in a 2-0 week for the Panthers. He netted a goal to tie the score at 2-2 late in the second period in a 5-4 overtime triumph over UMass Dartmouth, and tallied the overtime game-winner in the 6-5 victory Saturday over defending champion Salem State.
2. Curtis Arsenault (Berlin, N.H.)- Men’s Basketball – Arsenault scored 14 points in Tuesday night’s 84-60 victory over Rivier and be- come the 28th player in program history to eclipse the 1,000-point mark. He drilled a three pointer in the first half to reach 1,000 points.
3. Prince Gbaley (Manchester, NH.) Men’s Football: Gbaley filled up the stat sheet in PSU's 23-6 victory over Fitchburg State in Saturday's season finale. He tallied two interceptions, including one returned 50 y ards for a touchdown, as well as a fumble recovery, a tackle for a loss, three pass break-ups and a blocked punt, which was recovered in the end zone for a safety. Based on his weekend performance, Gbaley was recognized for both MASCAC Defensive Player of the Week and Co-Rookie of the Week.
4. Ace Lawrence (Middletown, Conn.) Women’s Basketball – Lawrence was the ‘Ace’ of the game as she dropped a game-high 21 points on 8-of-13 shooting in Tuesdays 71-61 victory. She also went 3-of-6 from three-point range while registering three assists and two steals.
