The PSU Women’s Swimming & Diving team is 2-1 after earning a victory in their home opener against Colby Sawyer college on November 11 and splitting a tri-match with Eastern Connecticut State University and Western New England University on November 19th.
In the home opener, the Panthers racked up 147 team points total to surpass Colby Sawyer’s 131 team points. PSU picked up nine event wins in the meet, sealing their over-all victory with the final event, the 400-yard free relay. The relay team for the final race consisting of freshman Molly Harrington (Tewksbury, MA), junior Alexandria Ambrosino (Holden, MA), sophomore Deanne DeGrazia (Westport, MA), and junior Emily Wadling (Lebanon, NH) finished with a time of 4:00.24. In individual victories, Harrington claimed the 50-yard freestyle (26.45 sec), sophomore Julia West (Wicasset, ME) took the 50-yard backstroke (31.35 sec), sophomore Melissa Page (Atkinson, NH) won the 100-yard butterfly (1:16.30), and DeGrazia clinched the 500-yard free (6:08.78).
PSU traveled to Eastern Connecticut for the tri-match, toppling Western New England 154-82, but falling to the hosts 99-145. Plymouth placed second in both the 400-yard medley relay, raced by Wadlinger, junior Allie Schumaker (Haymarket, VA), Page, and Harrington, and the 400-yard free relay, raced by Harrington, Ambrosino, Schumaker, and Wadlinger. The Panther also picked up three first place titles in individual events, as Wadlinger claimed the 50-yard free (26.57 sec), Harrington took the100-yard free (58.21 sec), and West won the 50-yard butterfly (29.86).
After the two meets, Plymouth stands at 2-1. The Panthers will return home to the PSU Natatorium for their next meet on Saturday, December 3 at 1:00 p.m. against Rhode Island College.
