Real Sports Talk with E$

Ahh, back at ole Plymouth State University where the temperatures are cool, and the first-years are absolutely clueless as to where to go around campus. Since this is my eighth semester up here, I’ve seen a lot of interesting things. With that said, time to get down and dirty, and if this is your first time reading this article, hopefully you know me, because when I write/type this, I put my personality into every word that I type. Whenever I write this, I am listening to music, and today is no different as I am listening to some Keith Urban.

This column is going to be a little bit different than most that I do, as I will give you a little bit of a taste of some miscellaneous things that I did over the summer. I originally wrote a column that I planned to put up in the middle of July, but the website that we put our stories on was an absolute disaster this summer. Needless to say, not being able to put the column that I wrote up online caused a number of bad words to come flying out of my mouth.

Before the summer had “officially” started, I received an award from the Plymouth State Women’s lacrosse team, the Tim Fistori Super Fan Award, which meant so much to me. This award, named after the late, great, father of one of the captains on the team, Rachel Fistori, was given to me because of the effort and dedication that I have shown towards the team. I don’t ever think of what I do for them to be too special, as they are the ones busting their ass to capture another Little East Conference championship. To receive this award meant the absolute world to me, and that is not an understatement. Since I received this award prior to driving back to my hometown on Long Island, the only thing I could do during the duration of the drive (outside of driving, of course!) was just be in awe and be thankful for all of the great people that I have developed friendships with within that program.

The drive down to Long Island wasn’t done alone, as my two former roommates, Matt Cann and Tyler Cote, came down to the island with me. Matt and I had established with Tyler back in April that we would take a trip down to San Antonio, Texas, upon both of them graduating. We only stayed at my house for all of 12 hours, in which my mother made some kick ass Mexican lasagna, and we slept. Upon getting up the next morning (which was on Monday, May 19 I believe), we drove down to Alexandria, Virginia to one of our good friend’s house, in Ford Lands.

Upon devouring some awesome food made by his father, we explored the downtown Alexandria area, which is absolutely beautiful. It is a nice, quaint town that has a lot of character. The following day involved what, at the least felt like, the longest leg of the trip. From Alexandria, we drove down to Nashville, Tennessee. I had been in a relatively crabby mood that day, so I wasn’t able to enjoy that city as much as I probably should/could have.

Down almost any street you go, there are a number of bars that have live bands playing, and since we were there on a Wednesday, I can only imagine how alive that place must be during any given weekend. After being in Nashville for a night, we headed down South to New Orleans, Louisiana, which I had been to in October 2013. Since we had originally come from Plymouth, Tyler, who is a snowboarder, had his snowboard with him, and brought it into the hotel so he wouldn’t have to worry about it being stolen.

With our hotel being on the corner of Canal and Bourbon Streets, we had to park Tyler’s car about a quarter of a mile away. Needless to say, he got some extremely funny/confused/puzzled looks from people when he was walking down the streets of New Orleans with a snowboard. A few hand grenades and other beverages later, we continued on the last leg of our trip, which was to San Antonio.

While in San Antonio, we floated in the San Marcos River (in which I fell into attempting to get into the tube), walked around the River Walk (which is badass), saw The Alamo, and had some amazing Southern and Mexican food. San Antonio is an absolutely beautiful place, and I am pumped to eventually make another trip down there within the next few years (but flying this time). Matt and I ended up flying out on the Tuesday (the 27th), but, since the weather was an issue across the U.S. that specific day, Matt got stuck overnight in Baltimore, Maryland, and I didn’t get home until about two in the morning. Overall, the trip was quite an adventure, and it was a hell of a lot of fun to take a road trip that spanned a couple thousand miles.

That about does it for the summer, so I’ll get into other business.

In Other Irrelevant (Though I Find Interesting) Sports News:

-Is this the year that the Patriots finally crack, and don’t make the playoffs/have a 10 win season? The Miami Dolphins looked extremely good, and have a lot of potential this year.

-My Super Bowl pick? New Orleans Saints over the Indianapolis Colts.

-In other news, the never-ending MLB season continues to chug along.

-How long until hockey starts back up? Upon talking to some PSU players, Gordon Ceasar, Josh Woody, and Tord Thoresen, I can’t wait for their season to start up.

-Shout-out to Rachel Fistori for running nearly under 20 minutes in the women’s lacrosse three mile run.

-No :10 seconds this week, as I haven’t seen a single PSU game this fall, and can’t really make a proper assessment as to whom deserves it.

Non-Sports Information of the Summer:

Rant of the Summer/beginning of the year- Typical beginning of the year for this school, in that people are leaving their trash all over the place. Stop being lazy bastards people, no one is going to hold your hand once you get out of college, and you make this campus look like crap when there are cans all over the place

-It pisses me off so much to see people make a mess of this campus. Have some pride in your school, and more importantly, yourself.

-I wonder if Steen in going to take Matt Ormsbee’s suggestion, and join NPR. She’s got the perfect voice for it.

-Applied for a few Winter internships over the past week, and I really hope I get one of those bad boys. Aside from putting it on my resume, I want to learn about even more broadcast meteorology stuff than I already know.

-Through a guy that I have connected with via Twitter, I was fortunate enough to check out one of the news station in New York City this past summer. It was an awesome experience, and for that, I am extremely appreciative of the friendship I have developed with Mike Leona.

-If you don’t see me this semester, it is because I am on the third floor of Boyd.

-Shout-out to my sister and my mom, as they both celebrate birthdays between now and the next time I write one of these bad boys.

Real Talk with Eric- Enjoy being up at school, but not too much. Go on a hike, experience the great outdoors that are around and near Plymouth, and be thankful that you are at Plymouth State University.

‘Till whenever I write this again, I’m outta here…..
