:10 Seconds with Kyle Wilson
As Homecoming looms this weekend, one of the staples of any given Homecoming week/weekend is the football game. For the Panthers, the football team will face UMass Dartmouth on Saturday (9/27) afternoon at 1:00 P.M. on Currier Field. One of the leaders of the Panthers is senior defensive end, Kyle Wilson (Dover, N.H.). Wilson is currently 2nd on the team with 18 tackles this season, 6.5 of which went for a loss (which leads the team), and leads the team with two sacks as well, both came against Mount Ida. Despite the Panthers getting off to a 1-2 start this season, they will look to rebound in a big way when they have their second MASCAC (Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference) match-up in the homecoming game. A win is crucial for PSU, as UMD has the same overall and conference record (0-1) as Plymouth. With Wilson leading the defensive charge, watch for the game to not only be an exciting one, but one in which the Panthers can, and should, come out on top.
1.How long have you been playing football for?
Including this year, 14 years.
2.How does the football team look for the rest of the 2014 season?
We are looking like a freight train from hell coming right up the ass of the competition.
3. What is your most memorable moment in your football career?
The Shrine for NH in 2011, unreal to realize how fortunate we are to play this game and just have good health.
4. Do you have any superstitions on game-day?
Not on game day, but I try to mimic my routine each week. Eat the same foods at the same meals leading up to each game.
5. What was your "Welcome to football" moment in your career?
In my first ever game,my coach was going to hand out a candy bar to whoever had the hardest hit. I had the hardest hit that game and the next few and got the nickname "crunch bar" Kyle Wilson. It was pretty cool in third grade and stuck during my youth football years.
6. If I were to look at you iPod/iTunes/etc. what would be the five most played songs?
Mother Danzing 93, The Mahdi Underachievers, Bad Company, Easy Rider Action Bronson, Blessed SchoolboyQ
7. You had two sacks against Mount Ida. What is your go-to move on a pass rush, and what is that feeling like when you bring the quarterback to the ground?
The bullrush then rip by. It’s a great feeling just knowing you contributed to a successful play for the team.
8. With homecoming being next week, and you being a senior, what does the game, as well as the weekend as a whole, mean to you?
It’s the last time ever being a part of a homecoming game in my football career so it has that extra emotion. I’m going to try to savor the moments a little bit more, not just rush through everything. Every conference game is important and our team goal is to win. It’s what’s important now, and the homecoming game is what is important for that weekend, just getting the win.
9. How much motivation does the team have after being ranked 9th in the preseason MASCAC polls? What did the team do in the off-season to prove the conference wrong?
As a team we don't put much stock into polls and preseason rankings. We know what we are capable of, the coaches put us in positions to succeed. It’s on us to come out and perform on gameday. We worked hard all offseason and we aren’t going to let some preseason poll dictate our season. It’s a group of dedicated individuals who put a lot of time in the weight room and conditioning, and hopefully it translates onto the field.
10. Where do you hope to see this program five years down the road?
Winning conference championship games and playing in the NCAA playoffs.
