Real Sports Talk with E$
Since I started writing this column, I wanted people to envision me writing this article under these conditions: it is dark outside, I am listening to music, and truly taking my surrounding in from the unknown world outside this window. It is relatively quiet on campus this Monday night, as most students, I’d imagine, are in their dorm rooms/bedrooms doing homework/studying/talking with their friends. The 30 minutes or so that it takes me to write this article allows me to get away from it all; it let’s me speak my mind through the power of words, and allows me to develop even more character for myself. For those of you that do know me, you know that I am an uncensored individual that appreciates honesty and truthfulness more than almost anything else. Through the power of some Keith Urban, I am in business to get the ball rolling with this article.
Kick start to the NFL, as my Super Bowl matchup of the Indianapolis Colts and New Orleans Saints appears to be a bit farfetched, as both teams started off 0-2, but came back to win week 3 games that they should have won. I still stand by that Super Bowl pick, as it is too early to truly rule any team out of Super Bowl talks. The most impressive team in the first three weeks of the season has been the Arizona Cardinals, as they are one of three teams to start off the season 3-0 (and they have the biggest points differential in the league). I had the Cards finishing a distant 3rd in their division this season, as losing a number of players on their starting defense would have hurt them drastically. With wins over the San Diego Chargers, New York Giants, and San Francisco 49ers, the Cardinals couldn’t have asked for a better start. Unfortunately for Arizona, they have their bye this upcoming week, and then have the task of playing the Denver Broncos in Week 5. If they can manage to win that game, this team will need to be looked at as being “for real.”
In the MLB, the team that spends the most money and stays the healthiest are typically the teams that do the best, and this year is no different. The Detroit Tigers, Los Angeles Angles, and Los Angeles Dodgers have three of the top six biggest payrolls (with the New York Yankees, Philadelphia Phillies and Boston Red Sox being the other three teams), and have had the best records in baseball for the majority of the year. These teams will all have their chances to win the World Series this season, but the Angels will be the team that comes out on top upon beating the Dodgers in a five game series.
In Other Irrelevant (Though I Find Interesting) Sports News:
-What a terrible past few weeks the NFL has had. Maybe if they were honest with themselves, they wouldn’t look like such complete assholes. Being truthful and honest is something that doesn’t seem too common these days, whether it be politicians, sports players/teams, or the media.
-Aaron Rodgers isn’t looking like the quarterback we have seen in the past, and Eddie Lacy playing subpar isn’t helping.
-Is it hockey season yet?
-Jay Cutler for MVP; it has a certain ring to it.
-Nick Foles currently leads the NFL in passing yards. So much for a second-year starter flop.
-Jameis Winston is an ass clown. When will he realize he can’t do the stuff that typical college kids can do?
-Blows my mind how some NFL Head Coaches got their job.
Non-Sports Information of the Week
Rant of the Week- I feel like a broken record with the stuff that I say. Whether it be campus or Plymouth police throwing their lights on to blast through the crosswalks, or trash being all over the place around Plymouth, it is the typical rant of the week, and this one is no different. I’ll try to come up with a new one off the top of my head. Nothing is really coming to my mind, outside of having common courtesy of those around you.
-What’s up Momma Ormsbee? Trying to keep Matty-poo under control, and it is kinda working.
-If you need some candles for the holidays/thanksgiving/to make the room smell good because you smell like crap/impress your girlfriend or boyfriend, holla atcha boy. I am selling some for the Women’s lacrosse team.
-Shout-out to everyone in his or her clubs/sports that survived last weekend down at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. It is always an adventure being down there.
-Gotta love interacting with former members of The Clock, whether it be Meagan Manson, Ben King, Ali Myers or Alex Hollatz. All of those kids are some of my favorite alumni of this damn thing we call a newspaper, and I miss their presence around this office more than they will ever know.
-I know that John Clark and President Steen must be so happy to see everyone on the PSU Women’s lacrosse team at the ring ceremony at halftime on Saturday during the football game, not that either of them care/went to any of the games last season.
-Who doesn’t love this cooler fall weather? The leaves will be changing any day now.
-Shout-out to Matt Ormsbee, who does a decent job at being in charge of The Clock. As he knows, I really run the show here, but he is an okay boss, and an even better friend.
-Speaking of friends, Ian Urquhart, you are a great friend, and an even better person.
-No one ever likes a blatant kiss-ass.
-The boys of 49 Langdon are some great people with some….. unique personalities. Ryan Callahan is a hell of a character, Gordon Ceasar is an extremely respectable kid, and Josh Woody, well, he’s Josh Woody.
-Better not get a crappy Spring Fling performer this year.
-Real Talk with Eric- Just because there are 24 hours in a day, doesn’t mean you can’t achieve a goal today. That’s some real shit right there.
‘Till the next time I write this column, I'm outta here.
