WPCR Spotlight: Nick Einstman

Nick Einstman has always been interested in radio. The Plymouth State University junior started out at WPCR, PSUs school radio station, during his freshman year.  From there Einstman campaigned for, and got, the position as Music Director on the stations’ executive board. He then decided to move up the exec board ladder and, with words of encouragement from members of the board, pursued his current role as Assistant General Manager at the station. “I wanted to be more hands on with the station” said Einstman about his current role as AGM, where part of his duties include helping to run the weekly group meetings and other behind the scenes work for the station.

While Nick may have a bigger role with WPCR than when he started, he still continues to host his own weekly show, only now he gets a little help from sophomore, Tara Perkins. Originally titled “Nick Einstein and the Lamebrain Show”, the show used to focus on playing ,“a little bit of everything”. Einstman recently rebooted the show, moving it from Thursday nights to Tuesdays, bringing co-host Perkins on board, and changing the name to simply “The Lamebrain Show” to better accommodate the duo. Einstman has also changed the musical stylings of the show as well. What was once a variety of tunes is now, “a random assortment of indie and punk music, but we’ve been known to drop some nineties rap on occasion,” Einstman said.  Einstman and Perkins have added another touch; capping every show off with the famous Louis Armstrong song “What a Wonderful World” either performed by Armstrong himself or a cover from a band of their choice.

For anyone interested in checking out WPCR, Einstman highly recommends coming to one of their weekly meetings every Wednesday night in Memorial hall. Einstman describes WPCR as a welcoming environment where everyone is working together to improvement one another’s shows. “Definitely come and check it out. I’ve met some of my best friends through the station,” said Einstman.

WPCR meets every Wednesday night at 9pm in Memorial Hall.

The Lamebrain Show airs every Tuesday night from 11pm to 1am at 91.7 WPCR and online at www.wpcr.org
