:10 Seconds with Kelsey Lynch
The Plymouth State Women’s Hockey team looks to kick off the 2014-2015 campaign with some early season success. One player that will be a big key to the success of the Panthers this season is junior alternate captain Kelsey Lynch. Upon transferring from Salve Regina after her freshman season, Lynch has found a nice home at PSU, which included her becoming an alternate captain.
Lynch was able to show her old team what she was about last season, as she was able to find the back of the net for her second career goal as a Panther last season. Watch for Lynch to help direct the Panthers to success as the 2014-2015 season progresses on.
1. How long have you been playing hockey?
I have been playing hockey since I was 5 years old so, almost 16 years.
2. How does the hockey team look for the 2014-2015 season?
I am really excited for the season. We have a lot more skill and confidence this year, which will definitely be beneficial. Since we are a smaller team this year we all are forced to step up and take on new roles in order to be able to compete. We have the potential to beat anyone we want; we just have to capitalize on opportunities and work hard.
3.What is your most memorable moment in your hockey career?
Probably my first goal ever. There were so many players in front of the net and the puck was just sitting on the goal line. So, I dove with my stick out and went into the net along with the puck.
4. Do you have any superstitions on game-day?
Before Every game-day I get an inspirational text message from my roommate (Amanda Chase). I also have to stand next to Cortney Sollows during the starting line-up.
5. What was your "Welcome to hockey" moment in your career?
In high school I had the opportunity to practice on the 1980 Olympic rink in Lake Placid, NY every single day. This is where I really fell in love with the game and learned to never take anything for granted. It is something I will never forget.
6. If I were to look at you Ipod/ITunes/etc. what would be the five most played songs?
1. Out of the Woods- Taylor Swift, 2. All About that Bass – Meghan Trainor, 3. American Kids – Kenny Chesney, 4. Waves- Mr. Probz, 5. Riptide- Vance Joy.
7. What did it mean to you to receive an 'A' on your jersey upon being on this team for only your second season at PSU?
It was an awesome feeling to receive the an ‘A’ this year. I like knowing that people can trust me and respect me enough to put me in such a position. It has definitely motivated me to play better knowing that if my teammates see me working hard they will do the same.
8. This team appears to have a completely new identity compared to last season's team. How will that allow you guys to be successful this season?
That’s weird you said that because that was one of our goals this year. We didn’t want to be overlooked and we wanted to be taken more seriously. We work really hard and we want that to show it on the scoreboard. We really want to prove people wrong!
9. What did it mean to you to be involved in the first ever PSU Tournament in Plymouth State hockey history?
It was a really cool experience and a great way to start off the season. Having only a week to get to know each other on the ice it kind of forced us to take on the season at full speed. We also walked away with knowing what we needed to work on and what to expect for the rest of the season.
10. Rumor has it that your nickname is Kelsey Lunch. Where did that nickname come from exactly, and what is the story behind it?
My nickname is actually Kelly Lunch. I made the mistake last year of telling my teammates an embarrassing story from when I was younger and it backfired on me! It took me awhile to get used to it and I still correct my friends to this day but it is completely out of my control now. Even when we aren’t at the rink they will introduce me to other people as Kelly. I hate it!
