Exploration: Sites & Hikes Near Plymouth

Among many of Plymouth’s wonderful assets, such as Chase Street, easy access to mountains, and a killer view from Lamson Library, are some hidden gems that can be discovered just off the beaten path.

The hidden falls off Mill Road are one of those gems.

Past Walmart, the first exit off the rotary and a right turn at the second blinking yellow light will lead you to a river and small pools off a dirt road and through a thicket of branches. This beautiful river is highlighted with wading pools, crystal clear waters, and a current strong enough to feel, but not sweep students off their feet. One can enjoy jumping from rock to rock down the river, exploring the old red abandoned mill house, and taking in the essence of New Hampshire.

Another hidden gem is Rainbow Falls, a must see for all Plymouth students. Just a little outside of Plymouth, a quick 15-minute hike through solitary and beautiful woods lead to a tall face of a rock with water spilling off the side. The woods open up like a doorway to this pretty little gem, and the brave can climb to the top and sit looking down onto the waterfall.

Some not-so-hidden-gems also include Livermore Falls, any trail in the Laconia Notch, and Camden Falls. All should be strongly encouraged to get outside before the first snow and take in the beautiful surroundings that are right within reach; all students have to do is open their eyes.

Put the phones down, grab some friends and some Beiderman’s subs, head out into the great unknown, and make it known. Sometimes taking advantage of all that Plymouth has to offer can include adventures just a little ways outside of our beautiful campus.
