Roll Camera! PSU's Film Club Competition
Do you have an iPhone? Got a Go-Pro? Then PSU’s Film club is looking for you! Greg Rapoza, Film Club President, stated, “This is a great way for people to work together, have fun and share some short films they create.” Greg is hoping they get a good participation level and plans to screen the final short films at the end of the competition.
Jordan Rosenburg, the club’s Social Media Rep and her roommate Shelby Rowe are teaming up for the challenge. When asked about what she is most excited about in the competition, she said, “I'm really excited for the competition. I think it'll be a great way to get people inside and outside of the film club involved. It'll also be a good learning experience for those who aren't sure how film making really works. My roommate is going to be on my team and we're both excited to see what genre we're going to be assigned.”
Each team has one week to complete the competition and have a finished three-minute film to present. It may not be much time, but that is just part of the challenge. The Film Club members are very excited to see the results of the competition.
When asked what she saw as the biggest part of the challenge that may trip up the contestants, Kayla Coates, Film Club scribe, said, “A challenge that might be for groups and individuals doing this challenge is setting aside enough time to make sure that you can film it all in one week. Granted you have a week to film it but until you start filming a short film, sometimes people don't realize how long it actually can take and how many shots one scene can be.”
Other members of the club plan to compete as well.
One such is Sarah Liebowitz. Asked what she sees as a challenge in the competition, Sarah said, “I think the film challenge will be a lot of fun. I like that the time limit is one week, because it will force me to start and finish a project all the way through. I don't have the time to do a huge film project, but it is surprising what you can make in a short period of time. I'm excited to find out what props, dialogue, and genre I will be given, but hopefully I can think of something creative to do with that. I don't have a fancy camera and I'm pretty new at editing film.
Editing will probably be the most challenging part. I would like to use Adobe Premiere Pro, a nice editing software that the Macs in the library have. I haven't used it very much, I've only edited with the free program on Windows. You don't need a fancy camera or a fancy program to create a good film. A lot of it is creativity, imagination, and a good eye.”
Here are the rules:
1- You will be given a line of dialogue that you must use in the short film.
2- You will be given a genre, which your film must adhere.
3- You will be given a prop (it will be a commonly held item that you must provide)
4- The final short cannot exceed 3 minutes in length.
5- You will have only 1 week to make your finished product.
The most important rule is that one person from each group MUST be present at MONDAY 4/13 meeting @ 4:45 pm in the Hyde Downstairs lounge. Need more info? Greg asks that if you are interested, they strongly recommend emailing him in advance, grrapoza@plymouth.edu , to make sure they have plenty of materials for each group!
