Calling all seniors! Spring semester is fast approaching, and with that comes the responsibilities of finishing out classes and requirements for your major, filing all the paperwork out on time, and preparing for commencement and the job market. The problems that most seniors face are where to start and what to do. Fear not! PSU is here to help you get that diploma on time.
The Undergraduate Advising Center provides plenty of support and information to assist seniors on the cusp of graduation. Educational Assistant Deb Tobine explained that this is the third year that they send out notifications as to the student's progress and requirements. "Once a student files to graduate, we do an overview of them and send an email to the advisor and student on whether or not they are eligible to graduate. This usually occurs around the end of November or early December." For students who do not keep up with their credits or know what they have left to accomplish, this is a useful tool. "Nobody was letting them know until late Spring semester," Tobine said. "It's too late by then."
Senior and Criminal Justice major Erica Deely gave her thoughts on personally being prepared for the end of her last year at PSU. "I know for me, personally, I'm still worried if I'll be all set on graduating in the spring. You just hope and pray that if you pass your classes that you'll be all set and that your advisor knows what he or she is talking about." She also commented on the usefulness of having information readily available for seniors. "I think if you know where to find the sources of getting that information, then you're golden. However, I know some seniors who are in full panic mode because they have no idea if they're on the right track for completing the right courses in order to graduate."
For anyone who has yet to file their Undergraduate Degree Request & Commencement Participation Notification, you are still applicable to walk in May, but there will be a $50.00 Late Fee through a one month period after the November 1 deadline.
