Panther Power Rankings

Player

1. Rob Giles– The senior kicker on the football team captured both the MASCAC and ECAC Special Teams player of the Week upon hitting two crucial field goals in the Panthers’ 20-13 loss to Castleton. Giles’ second field goal of the game, a 25-yarder, sent the game into overtime.

2. Zara Jakubas– The junior tennis player is on a roll to start her 2014 season. Against Southern Maine, Jakubas won in straight sets 6-3, 6-0, then won her double match with Sunny Jakubas 8-1. In her follow-up performance against Colby-Sawyer, Jakubas won her match two sets to three, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3, and followed up that performance by winning her doubles match 8-2 with Jakubas.

3. Annaliese Schmidt- The sophomore goalie for the women’s soccer team is off to a quick start, as she has allowed only one goal in two games this season. Schmidt has saved 18 of 19 shots against her to propel the Panthers to a 1-1 record in the early part of the season.

4. Kaitlyn Wilder- The sophomore forward for the field hockey team is continuing her success from last season, as she leads the team with four goals, while chipping in on three assists.

5. Kristen Perrotta- The junior setter has been contributing in many assets, as she leads the team in assists (115) and digs (42), while posting 17 kills through 5 games. Watch for the captain to lead her team to a conference victory against Rhode Island College on Saturday (9/13)

Team

1. Tennis (2-0 record): It is tough to disagree that this team is the best one on campus so far in 2014. By defeating conference rival Southern Maine and Colby Sawyer over the past week, this team is off to a strong 2-0 start behind Zara and Sunny Jakubas.

2. Field Hockey (2-1): Capturing two wins in their first three games, this team looks to build on early season success as the LEC games loom large. Behind Nikki Garvey, Kaitlyn Wilder and Alivia Bates, watch for the Panthers to show that they should have been picked to win the LEC, and not tie for second.

3. Men’s Soccer (1-2): Upon the team picking up their first win of the season against Salem State on Wednesday (9/10) night, the team will look to gain momentum heading into out of conference games against Castleton, Bridgewater, and Daniel Webster. The two losses were each by a goal.

4. Women’s Soccer (1-1): First year Head Coach Ryan Joy has his team on track, as they won their first game of the season against Western New England. Despite a 1-0 loss to Salem State, watch for this team to drastically improve on their 6-12 record from last year.

5. Football (0-1): A tough 20-13 overtime loss is how Head Coach Paul Castonia kicked off the 2014 campaign. Senior captain Mark Hennessy had a strong game, as he ran for 99 yards and a touchdown, and also had a 51-yard pass that was a big reason the game went into overtime. Watch for the Panthers to capture their first win of the season against Mount Ida on Saturday afternoon.
