PLYMOUTH, N.H.-Family Weekend is an annual event held at PSC. September 27, 2002 marks the beginning of Family Invasion, this year’s theme. Amy Beaudet, Vice President of the Annual Themes committee for PACE, is in charge of putting together this large event. She has had the help of PACE advisors Tracie Massey and Rodney Ekstrom, who joined the team at the end of August.
According to Beaudet, an event like this one doesn’t happen over night. She began planning the events for the Family Weekend before summer started. She spent the entire summer organizing the bigger tasks such as finding a performer and creating the activities for the entire weekend. Three weeks before the event is when things start to get hectic, said Beaudet. During this time she took care of ordering tickets, putting together folders for the parents, and creating giveaways.
Beaudet’s goal throughout the planning stages has been to create a time where parents can come to the college and have something to do with their children. “I really want it to come out great,” she said. She has worked many hours on Family Weekend and is hoping that students and families have a wonderful time.
Planning for this event has been very time consuming and required the help of many people. Many of the people volunteering their time this week include the athletes, who will be participating in Casino Night, Joe Long, who is handling Alumni relations, and the Outing Club, who will sponsor the family hike on Saturday. The President and his wife will be hosting a reception for all of the visiting families at their home Friday evening.
With everything in place and ready to go, Beaudet’s thoughts are now about the families’ reactions to the weekend. “I’ve tried to make everything perfect and hope that families have a good time. It’s all for the students.”
