Paul Rogat Loeb Selected as Commencement Speaker

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Paul Rogat Loeb, an associated scholar at Seattle’s Center for Ethical Leadership, has been selected as this year’s commencement speaker at Plymouth State College on Saturday, May 17. An investigative reporter and author, Loeb has spent more than 25 years researching and writing about citizen responsibility and empowerment.Loeb has asked what makes some people choose lives of social commitment, and his book, Soul of a Citizen: Living with Conviction in a Cynical Time, chronicles the stories of ordinary people who are making a difference. In an interview on abcnews.com, Loeb states, “Most of my work, for the past 30 years, focuses on telling the stories that will inspire people to act.” He says we need to make the world a better place and, “We can start . . . by beginning wherever we are and trying to build (an) engaged community from there.”Because Loeb’s work offers an intimate perspective on the fundamental questions of our time, his work has been praised, quoted and discussed in numerous publications including The New York Times, Washington Post, Newsweek, Christian Science Monitor, Newsday, Psychology Today, the Reader, Village Voice, National Catholic Reporter and Mother Jones, to name a few. He has participated in over 400 television and radio interviews, including CNN, National Public Radio, C-Span and NBC Nightly News. Loeb also conducts one and two-day residencies, classes and workshops on college campuses nationwide.
