Who Turned Out The Light?

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Since open-ing weekend of the fall semester, over eight light poles have been either damaged or vandal-ized in the White Moun-tains Apartment Complex. Lights near the entrance to the apartments, side park-ing lots behind the Univer-sity Computer Store, and the walkway to Armory road all appear to be dam-aged. This calls into ques-tion the safety of walking through these areas at night.

Damage reports to the lights of the White Mountain Complex go back as far as last spring. Lights have been damaged in a variety of ways, says Tom Weeks, apartment director for the student apartments. Six poles have been repaired this semester already, mostly damaged on the weekends by unknown par-ties. A majority of these sustained damage on the top of the pole, evidenced by plastic bag coverings. Other poles in the side parking lot behind the University Computer Store have received more severe damage with the knocking down of the entire pole and cutting of electrical cords.

The dimming of walking paths isn’t the only bad news. Residents of the WMAC may end up being charged with the damage costs if those responsible for the damages are not found. Additionally, the residents may see an increase in hous-ing fees ov er the course of the semester if the damage continues. The WMAC’s Apartments Complex Assistants and Campus Police are looking into the vandalism and would appreciate any information on the crimes.
