Spirituality on Campus Led by Yvonne Miloyevich

We all have a common thread in the fabric of reality. Each and every one of us has three components that make up our complete being. Each component needs an equal amount of attention in order for us to live in harmony. We all have a trinity within us. We are one part physical, one part mental and one part spiritual. All of us who attend class spend an adequate amount of time on the mental aspect. Many of us play a sport or go to the gym, so the physical part of our self is somewhat in check. But what have you done lately about your spirituality?

It?s not to say that everyone must attend church every Sunday or walk around campus quoting Jesus. If you feel that your spiritual self is lacking, or you would just like to broaden your horizons, then Yvonne Miloyevich at United Campus Ministries is the person to see. Miloyevich first became involved at Plymouth State because she ?enjoys the intellectual stimulation of the college atmosphere.?

Miloyevich is available five days a week to talk to students and faculty about anything. If unfamiliar with the topic you wish to discuss, she will surely listen attentively. Prior to arriving at Plymouth State she spent some time working as a Chaplain. Miloyevich defines a Chaplain as ?someone who walks along side people on their spiritual journey.? Miloyevich believes that your spiritual self is never fully complete; you are always able to grow and learn more. As a Chaplain, she has had the chance to work with many faiths. Miloyevich is the type of person who is very approachable and open-minded. Miloyevich has recently explained that her main goal is ?to spread spirituality throughout campus, to show different kinds of faiths to the students and faculty, and to encourage religious diversity in the college atmosphere.?

Miloyevich hopes to start a student written spirituality column that will come out every week. Writers wanted! If you are interested, her office is in the basement of Mary Lyons near the writing center. She is also working on opening a “Sacred Space” at the request of the students that would provide a quiet place for prayer, meditation, and reflection. There will also be a place for meetings and her office. The new location is planned to be off of Highland Street. Yvonne also has some programs already underway. ?On Wednesdays we meet at 12:00 PM in the HUB. Sometimes there are special speakers. Don’t forget to bring your lunch!? She is also available for one on one counseling. Furthermore Miloyevich is involved with the Pemi Youth center. She attends and supports the Alternative Café. ?The Alternative Café is a drug and alcohol free open mic which goes on Thursday nights from 8:00-10:00 PM. You can play an instrument or present a reading, or just come and listen.? Miloyevich explains. Yvonne Miloyevich and United Campus Ministries “provides resources to encourage and empower spiritual growth with in the PSU community.?
