Last year, a group of Plymouth State students decided that a well established snowboard and skateboard club was long overdue. After a lot of hard work and frustration, their hope for such a club became a reality. These students have since pushed to make people aware that the Plymouth State University Snowboard and Skateboard Club draws well deserved national recognition and respect to both the club and the university. Plymouth State continues to produce some of the best snowboarders on the east coast and the club hopes that knowledge of this fact will bring about new members. The club is not only for advanced or expert riders. Anybody interested in snowboarding and or skateboarding at any level is more than welcome to join. There is no need to feel intimidated since there is always somebody there willing to help you improve. Extensive planning of events for this year as well as next, along with a generous increase in PSU allocated funds for next year, promise a great future for the club. Future trips include the U.S. Open and a skateboarding trip to Rye Airfield. Trips such as these can offer the perfect stress free change of scenery when school becomes overwhelming. There are other trips being planned as well. Due to the outstanding fundraising efforts by club members, member riders will be reimbursed for contest entry fees next year. For those who have not reached the competitive level, barbeques, beginner day, and late season contests will offer several opportunities for involvement and good times. Not having the correct equipment or clothing is no excuse to not join, seeing as all club members receive merchandise discounts from popular sponsors such as Eastern Boarder,Lahout’s, Snowboard Jones, and Atmosphere Clothing. The Snowboard and Skateboard Club is also sponsoring a snowboard video titled “Sack Lunch,” which is due out in September 2004. A “teaser” preview will be available soon. “Sack Lunch” features PSU Snowboard and Skateboard Club riders such as Jacques Beriau, Graham Hoffman, and Ben Johnson to list a few. If you are active at any mountains in the area, chances are you have seen at least one of the riders in the video, so be sure to listen for more information about possible showing locations and times for the “teaser.” The Snowboard and Skateboard Club offers PSU students exposure, provides them a chance to get involved and meet new people and do what they love. Students at PSU are lucky enough to live in the White Mountains, and this club allows students to take advantage of that opportunity. Meetings are held monthly in Hyde 120. New members and ideas are always welcome. For additional information, contact Scotty, Tom or Eamon at 536-8963.
