Film Competition to be held

Ever dream of being the next Quentin Tarantino, Kevin Smith or Spike Lee? Do you have a great motion picture idea that you lacked the motivation to pursue? Do you want to dust off that pesky script you’ve been pecking away at and finally put it in motion? Well, now’s your chance. Plymouth State Poets & Writers will host the first annual Plymouth State University Film Competition on Tuesday, May 4, in the Boyd lecture hall, room 144. Submissions for the ten-minute long films for the Film Competition are due April 30.With the growth of the literary community on campus and the increasing diversity of its gifted participants, PSU Poets & Writers has decided to expand its operations to include those who wish to express themselves imaginatively through the medium of film. All are invited to submit their work and participate in the chance to make an influential and creative artistic statement in a way that has never before been offered at PSU.Films are encouraged to be original, created and submitted by PSU students, and a maximum of ten minutes, but aside from that there are no restrictions on what filmmakers can put forward. The grand prize is at least a $100 gift certificate to Best Buy, so if the joy and possible notoriety of filmmaking doesn’t capture your fancy, the gift certificate may certainly do the trick. In addition, substantial runner-up prizes will be handed out to the second and third place films, so many submissions will have the opportunity to take home something. The Film Competition is a unique campus event that is expected to be well represented, so don’t be shy about bringing your friends along for entertainment and support. Winners will be determined by audience votes, so the more people you bring, the better the chances for filmmakers to win. Even if you choose to not submit a film, come down and participate so you can have a say in which film you feel is worthy of reigning supreme at the competition. This will be an experience that both the audience and the filmmakers can enjoy, so attend this sure-to-be memorable event. All film submissions can be handed in to Dr. Paul Rogalus at Ellen Reed House, Matt Howes, or at the Poets & Writers office located in the HUB. Be free, be creative, have fun and let’s start the show!
