Men’s Lacrosse No Match for Eastern Conn

WILLIMANTIC, Conn. – Junior Brian Hebron set a single-game scoring record with 11 points Saturday afternoon as the Eastern Connecticut State University men’s lacrosse team downed Plymouth State University, 24-4, in a Little East Conference match at Thomas Nevers Field.All 31 players in uniform saw action for Eastern, with 14 players contributing either a goal or assist or both. The three-time defending champion Warriors have won all 27 of their conference matches in four years of LEC men’s lacrosse play and improved to 56-3 all-time at Nevers Field. Plymouth was the first team to beat Eastern, 15-11, at Nevers Field on April 1, 1996.The win is the fourth straight for Eastern (5-5 overall, 4-0 LEC) following a 1-5 start against national contenders. The Panthers are now 3-4 overall and 2-2 in conference play.  Eastern has beaten PSU 10 straight times since losing to the Panthers at Nevers Field in 1996.Hebron had two goals and three assists in the first quarter and two goals and four assists in the second quarter to lead the Warriors to a 17-2 halftime lead. Freshman Dave Carpenter had tied the previous game scoring record of 10 points in Wednesday’s 22-3 win over Western Connecticut State University.Senior attack Amir Loghmanieh scored four goals to improve his team-leading total to 23 while Carpenter had five assists to give him a team-high 19 this year. Hebron has 19 goals and 18 assists.Plymouth State scored once in each quarter, with sophomore Jon Gagnon scoring two goals and juniors Matt McCormick and Pat O’Malley connecting on one each.Eastern senior goalie Brian Zimowski won his first career match in his first career start (24th appearance). He worked the first 23 minutes, making two saves and allowing two goals and leaving with a 12-goal lead.The Panthers play again next Saturday in a LEC affair at UMass Boston (1:00 p.m.).
