Women’s Lacrosse Eases to 14-7 Win

WILLIMANTIC, Conn. -Senior Katie Sheridan scored seven goals Saturday afternoon, including five during a 9-2 first half, as the Plymouth State University women’s lacrosse team remained unbeaten in three seasons of Little East Conference play with a 14-7 victory over Eastern Connecticut State University.PSU also remains unbeaten this season, improving to 8-0 overall and 3-0 in conference play, while ECSU drops to 3-4 overall and 1-1 in the LEC.  The win is the 18th without a loss in three seasons of conference play for PSU, the two-time defending regular-season and playoff champion. Plymouth State has beaten Eastern in the conference championship match each of the past two years.Sheridan scored three goals to help the Panthers to an early 4-0 lead 13 minutes into play. The Warriors never got closer than three the rest of the way, with Plymouth State improving the lead to as many as eight goals, 10-2, seven minutes into the second half.Sheridan finished with half of her team’s goals, improving her conference-leading total to 43.  Senior Michelle Norton chipped in three goals to give her 24 this season.  Freshman Meg Cupoli, sophomores Bethany Brown and Nicole Evans and senior Jill Matteson all collected one goal apiece, and Cupoli contributed a pair of assists.Senior Carmen Villanueva made 11 saves in net for Plymouth State while Eastern senior Erika Blozie made a season-high 18 stops.Eastern all-conference junior Mo Deegan, the program’s second-all-time leading scorer, led Eastern with three goals and an assist while senior midfielder Lauren Davern added two goals.Plymouth State will play travel to play Rhode Island College tomorrow before returning home to face Bowdoin Sunday at 11 am.
