Parking Tickets/Drunk Driving

This past thursday a close friend of mine drove from her off campus home to the student apartments to hang out with a few friends and have some drinks. They then decided to go Downtown to the bars and by the time she got back she was much too drunk to drive home. She called me and I happily drove her home, leaving her car in the student parking lot figuring a $10-$15 dollar parking ticket was better than risking her life and the lives of others by driving. She set her alarm for early and came back the next morning to get the car. The ticket was there as expected, but what wasn’t expected was the price on it. $100.00!!!! First offense! PSU officials are asking for students to drive drunk. What this says to me is that they care more about making money than they do about the saftey and lives of people in Plymouth. Who ever is in charge of setting ticket prices should be ashamed. I’d like to have a chance to meet that person so I could get an explaination for this injustice. What happened to the punishment fitting the crime? She could have had that car towed back to her off campus apartment for less than half the price of the ticket. It’s unfair, unjust, and unamerican. I’d rather take my chances driving drunk than pay that ticket. I can’t believe PSU could be that greedy that it would encourage drunk driving to make a profit.
