Anyone notice the number of radio commercials lately advertising that young men are required to register with selective service?
The Bush administration is quietly trying to get bills (HR163 and S89) passed now, while the public’s attention is on the elections, so our action on this is needed immediately. The media are ignoring this.
The military draft could start as early as June 15, 2005. Selective Service reports to Bush on March 31, 2005 that the system is ready for activation. Gender, College and Canada will not be options for those not wanting to be drafted. In December 2001, Canada and the U.S signed a “smart border declaration”, and “pre-clearance agreement” of people entering and departing each country. It also eliminates higher education as a shelter. Underclassmen would only be able to postpone service until the end of their current semester. Seniors would have until the end of the academic year. Both men and women will be drafted.
Please contact your representatives, to ask them why they aren’t telling their constituents about these bills — and contact newspapers and other media outlets to ask them why they’re not covering this important story.
Also, get out and campaign against Bush. There are many more anti-war people among Democrats than among Republicans.
This will call Bush’s attention to your cause.
