Watch Out for Distractions of the Media

Students of Plymouth should make sure they are informed. Do not fall for media distraction. The media are under considerable pressure to “show the other side of the story” and even to discuss both sides of something for which one side is patently not true.

Issue: The Shape of the World

Opinion #1 The world is round.(Oh- oh, we’d better show the other side of this position)Opinion #2 The world is flat.(There, now we’ve shown even coverage of both sides)Clear untruths matched in time to clear truths simply take up air time and do little more than confuse.

REAL Example:Opinion #1 The war in Iraq was a bad decision and took our attention off Osama (True).Opinion #2 The war in Iraq got back at the WTC terrorists.(Clearly false and misdirecting).

Vote against more ‘miscalculation’.Use your heads.
