Women’s Tennis Win 3 of 4 Home Games

Plymouth NH – The Plymouth State women’s tennis team sandwiched a tough loss to Rhode Island College with two commanding victories against Endicott and Castleton. In the last three of four consecutive home games this week, the Panthers brought their season record to 5-4. On September 30, the Panthers took to the court against Endicott and won all but one match. Captain Whitney O’Leary took her match to a superset, winning late into the evening as the match was soon to be called on darkness. The only loss for Plymouth came in the doubles match as Liz Duell and Ashley Gorman fell to Endicott in a tiebreaker. In the match against RIC, the Panthers won two matches, losing 2-7. One win was in doubles by Jill Deyermond and Rachel Xavier, who suffered her first singles loss, and the other by Liz Duell in singles. Rhode Island is a tough competitor who is on a 13-match winning streak in the Little East Conference, and are 4-0 this year and 8-0 overall. Their last LEC loss was to Plymouth State College during the conference opener in September 2002. Jump to 2004, Deyermond and Xavier win their match 8-5, and Duell won 6-2, 6-4 for Plymouth State University. The last home match before the season ends, was against Castleton State as the Huskies closed out 9-0 in a romp around the Spartans, who are a strong 7-3 overall with their last match ending as a loss to Rhode Island College. The Huskies have one more away game this Saturday against Western Connecticut before they enter into the Little East Conference Tournament this October 14 and 15.
