Get to Know the Whole Health Team

Perhaps you have caught wind of the Whole Health Team, new to the campus this year, and the services available to you at Plymouth State University. If you haven’t heard, please allow me to introduce you to your Whole Health Team! There are five branches of the Whole Health Team: the Wellness Center, Women’s Services and Gender Resources, Health Services, the Reflection and Spiritual Care Center, and the Counseling Center. The Wellness Center is located on the first floor of the HUB, near the weight lifting rooms. Anytime between 10 am & 6pm, Monday through Friday, stop by to check out our resource library and talk with staff about other holistic programs we provide to you, free of charge! We offer holistic health services such as light therapy, reiki, massage and aromatherapy. Staff is available for one on one or group consultation. Life Educators is a group of student leaders that offer educational trainings on various topics of wellness, including nutrition, sexual health, alcohol awareness, stress management and communication. All students interested in healthy lifestyles are welcome and encouraged to become a Life Educator.Women’s Services and Gender Resources is located in the Holmes House. They provide information and referral services, leadership opportunities via internship and service learning opportunities, educational programming in the areas of violence prevention, diversity and gender based issues, short term crisis counseling and advocacy, support groups, resource library and annual events. Health Services is located on Avery Street next to Speare Memorial Hospital. They provide preventive and curative medical consultation and services. Health Services provides exams and tests at very affordable prices, and many of the services offered are contained in the cost of tuition. The Reflection and Spiritual Care Center is located on Highland St. in Samuel Reed Hall. It serves the community with a variety of programs and services to meet the diverse spiritual needs of students, faculty and staff. The Center provides pastoral counseling, fellowship, discussion, activity and service groups, as well as an environment to explore expressions of faith and opportunities to experience a variety of worship styles including traditional, contemporary, Christian and non-Christian. The Center also includes a “reflection room’ that is open to anyone who is seeking a quiet space for prayer or meditation. Currently there is a meditation group that takes place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 pm till 6:30 pm. The Counseling Center is located across from Center Lodge on Merrill St. All counseling services are free to PSU students. The Counseling Center provides psychotherapy, counseling, advice, support and consultation by appointment. The Counseling Center can also serve as a referral source to Health Services in the event that treatment may require medication. The Counseling Center also has a group of student leaders referred to as Peer Educators. Peer Educators provide consultation to students on such issue as self-esteem, body image and time management. There are too many resources available to cover in once article! Plymouth State offers the student a well-rounded service team to meet your needs holistically. The Whole Health Team works together as one unit to provide you with comprehensive and quality care. Thank you for allowing me to introduce myself and The Whole Health Team. It is my hope that this information will be of assistance and support to you, or to someone you care about. College can be a lot of fun, but it can also be stressful as yet another stage of growth. The Whole Health Team is available to support you in getting, keeping, becoming and staying healthy while you are here at PSU.
