Take the Time to Vote

Dear Editor: Responding to Nathaniel Currie’s letter, which was responding to Robbie Patridge’s column – I was chewing the inside of my cheek (to avoid using the less visual “chagrined”) as I heard Sen. Kerry intersperse the phrase “hunt and kill” in the first Presidential Debate. I winced and said bad things aloud. Yes, he was talking about the terrorists. It must, some would believe get him level with Bush, who really goes in big for “hunt and kill.” Such talk that highlights our current method of killing suspects (and, if with air strikes, then the innocent near them) without using a verifying court system (yes, this is a drawback of high-tech war) is disappointing, but still I’ll vote for Kerry on November 2. In the last debate Kerry praised former Pres. Reagan in some moment of wooing Republicans who might take that bait, disillusioned with and fearful of Bush’s leadership style. In two weeks or so we’ll know the answer. Can a country to make fear-based choices rationally rise up and choose a constructive path? Choose change in Washington? Vote in changed House and Senate too? May everyone reading this letter and the provocative columns in The Clock take the time to vote. We really don’t want to reward Bush and Cheney and their incumbent Republican subordinates all with another four years, do we?

Sincerely, Lynn Rudmin Chong
