Paul Hodes Campaigns at Plymouth State University

PLYMOUTH-Democratic candidate for Congress in the second congressional district, Paul Hodes made a campaign stopped by the PSU campus Tuesday night. Hodes is a self-described “independent -minded democrat,” who has spent his career as a civil servant, working as Assistant Attorney General of New Hampshire.

Hodes stopped in front of Prospect Dining Hall to greet students and make them aware of his candidacy. When asked why college students should vote for him, Hodes responded saying, “I’m a strong independent voice for New Hampshire, and it’s time to turn this country around. So we can do something about the failed policies of the Bush administration which my opponent, Charlie Bass supported.” Such failed policies, Hode claims, have led to “record deficits and record job losses,” as well as less opportunities for students and failing Medicare reform.

Hode went on to say that the President’s policies in Iraq have caused a “catastrophe, which threatens the lives of every one of the students here at this campus, through incompetent management of our foreign policy.” Hodes is opposed to a mandatory draft. Instead, Hodes is in support of a voluntary service program, which would be available for students between high school and college. The program will provide college assistance for students who will serve the country through either civil service or military service.

“What I can do is stand up for the interests of New Hampshire students, I can make sure that there’s the kind of assistance for going to college that students need,” Hodes said, when asked what he can do for New Hampshire college,” replied when asked what he can do for New Hampshire colleges.

Paul Hodes is in support of stem cell research and renewable energy policy to help create new jobs. He also supports fair trade and educational reforms. Hodes’ campaign slogan, “If you like President Bush’s Policy, then vote for Charlie Bass. But I’ll put New Hampshire’s people and values first.”
