The Pumpkins! The Pumpkins!

PLYMOUTH-After waiting for four long weeks, the pumpkins on top of Rounds finally made their appearance on Friday, October 28, just in time for Halloween weekend, keeping with a tradition that has spanned about fifty years.

Many students were skeptical that the pumpkins would be place high on the spires this year. Last year, the people responsible for the pumpkins were caught and heavily fined. However, we still don’t know the identities.

“At first I was really pissed off at the police because I assumed it was their fault for fining the people last year. I was really excited to see that the tradition of the pumpkins was continued despite the threat of executive retribution,” commented PSU student Dave Commins.

As the tradition goes, every year, generally a few weeks before Halloween, anonymous people find a way to climb to the top of Rounds’ clock tower and place the pumpkins on the spires. Many students have theories as to who the “pumpkin people” might be: members of the outing club, the athletic department, a Greek organization, even faculty and staff, but there has never been any evidence. Many students also have claimed to camp out for nights on end, trying to catch a glimpse of these mysterious people, but often fail.
