Snackbar’s Changes Make for Adjustment

PLYMOUTH-This past Winterim, the Mountain View Snackbar located inside of the Hartman Union Building received a facelift, and while the new design is meant to improve functionality, some students are not altogether pleased with the renovations.

Students who have had at least one semester here at PSU can notice the changes the minute they step foot into the door. Three new walls have been built on both sides of the cash register, thus separating the dining room from the food purchasing area.

The walls have also created a “one way” effect. Before construction of the walls, both entering and exiting customers could use both doors to the snack bar. Now with the new walls in place, it means that even if you do not purchase anything you must cross through the walls to exit into the dining area.

“The new changes were meant to aid incoming freshman as well as visiting tour groups,” said General Manager of Sodexho Dining Service, Chris Mongeon. “People not familiar with the snack bar were getting confused easily with our old setup. The new walls were designed to increase traffic flow.”

Returning students however, have not taken kindly to these new changes. Brian Fairbanks a junior at PSU said “I feel like they are trying to herd cattle every time I walk in there. It seems as if they cut down on the space both students and faculty can use by putting up these walls.”
