Two students stabbed in Tuesday night brawl

PLYMOUTH-A fight broke out at an off-campus apartment building in Plymouth late Tuesday night leaving two Plymouth State students stabbed.

Ken Murphy and Rob Stewart, both sophomores, were stabbed in the altercation. Both were taken to Speare Memorial Hospital and treated for their injuries.

University and Plymouth police responded to an altercation at 28 Tobey Rd, just after midnight on Wednesday morning. There were several intoxicated and injured people at the residence.

“There was a lot of confusion. There were a lot of intoxicated people and a lot of people who were bleeding,” said Plymouth Police Capt. Steve Temperino.

Temperino told the Laconia Citizen that the individuals at the residence were not willing to cooperate with police or accept medical attention.

The victims reported the incident several hours later while they were being treated at the hospital.

According to later interviews with the victims, a fight broke out after Stewart was hit in the face with a door. He was stabbed in the behind during the altercation. Murphy told reporters he was trying to break up the fight when he was punched and stabbed in the neck.

Hospital officials told Murphy that if the wound had been a half-inch to the left or right, he could have been paralyzed or killed.

According to Police, a vehicle was spotted leaving the scene as police were arriving. Police issued a statewide alert for the vehicle, a white, late-model Hyundai. However, Police said the owner of the vehicle was not a suspect.

Police tracked down the vehicle Wednesday night, however no other information was available at the time.

28 Tobey Rd is occupied by XAZ, a sorority at Plymouth State, unrecognized by the University. Police believe there was an after party for the hip-hop and R&B performance group, Metro City who performed in the HUB Tuesday night.

According to Harold Roy, who was involved in the orchestration of the performance, “None of the performers or artists at the show were involved in the mayhem.”

Roy continued, “A lot of hard work was put into this even and for it to be erased by the negligence of others who didn’t have a part of this is very discouraging.”

As of Thursday morning, no arrests had been made and it was unclear whether charges would be filed.
