A website has recently connected campuses in an entirely new way. Plymouth State University is part of the Facebook community. Currently, there are over 400 students and faculty registered. Facebook keeps a database of individual schools, and allows students to create their own profile, upload pictures to photo albums viewable by others, add friends to an address book, and write messages to others. Not only can students look up friends from their own university, they can look up and add friends from other universities. Students can even look up people from their old high school, and find friends they haven’t spoken to since graduation. “Facebook keeps me reminded of my friends’ birthdays,” says Junior, Ryan Rush. Student organizations benefit from Facebook, too. Students can organize groups, which link together members of a specific organization, such as The Clock, or imaginary groups like Plymouth State University Ninjas for Cheese Equality. As with any web listing, caution is advised. One shouldn’t released personal information he or she doesn’t want known. Photos should be uploaded with discretion. And as a general rule, only speak to friends and acquaintances one knows in real life. To sign up for the Plymouth Facebook community, all that is needed is a valid Plymouth State University e-mail address, such as thisisasampleemail@mail.plymouth.edu.
