PSU Women’s Lacrosse takes Little East opener at WestConn

DANBURY, Conn. – The Plymouth State University women’s lacrosse team used a balanced attack Saturday afternoon to defeat Western Connecticut State University, 15-5, in the Little East Conference opener for both schools.

The Panthers, who got goals from nine different players, took control of the contest with the first five goals of the game en route to an 8-3 advantage at halftime, and put the Colonials away with the first six goals of the second half. PSU went on to win its third straight game to even its overall record at 3-3, while WestConn fell to 0-6.

Junior Annie Pinault (Framingham, Mass.) led the Panther scoring parade with three goals and an assist, while senior Caitlyn Irving (Avon, Conn.) and junior Kelsey MacDonald (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) recorded two goals and one assist apiece. Senior Bethany Brown (Norwich, Conn.) and junior Meg Cupoli (Southboro, Mass.) also collected two goals each, and senior Nicole Evans (Scituate, Mass.) registered a goal and two assists. Juniors Liz Boddy (Brentwood, N.H.) and Amanda Spadafora (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) contributed a goal and an assist apiece, and freshman Cassidy Barry (Branford, Conn.) scored her first career goal.

Freshman Lindsay DeLorie (Holliston, Mass.) recorded her first career win in goal for the Panthers.

PSU returns home for the first game of the season Wednesday at Arold Field with an LEC against Southern Maine (4:00 p.m.) WestConn hosts in-state rival Eastern Conn. on Tuesday (4:00 p.m.)
