I believe there is a very simple answer regarding illegal aliens-send ’em all back. I think the people in this nation need to stand up to the politically correct crowd and tell this destructive minority to own up to its responsibilities or leave. These responsibilities include holding a job, not being on any government assistance whatsoever, obeying our nation’s laws, and going through the legalization or citizenship process as soon as humanly possible. Otherwise, they are simply extra baggage that needs to be kicked out of the country. Illegal aliens do a lot of harm to the United States of America. According to Kathy McKee of The American Resistance, 33% of our prison population consists of non-citizens, and between 36% and 42% of illegal aliens are on welfare. That means over 4 million illegal aliens are taking taxpayer money for their own use. President Bush is showing just how non-conservative he can be. Many people in this campus, state, and nation believe Bush to be an ultra-conservative, showing just how little they know of true conservatism. A real conservative would make sure our borders were secure, illegal aliens caught and deported, and situations such as the one with Police Chief Garrett Chamberlain in New Ipswich, NH never happened. For those of you who do not know, Chamberlain arrested an illegal alien for using a fake identification. A federal district court judge dismissed the case, saying as he did so that the chief had no authority to arrest illegal aliens. According to Michael Powell of the June 10, 2005 Washington Post, Richard Gendron, a police chief in Hudson, NH, also became part of the illegal alien debate. He caught two illegal aliens and charged them with trespassing. Both of these fine members of New Hampshire law enforcement are being vilified in the media for their work. Lastly, illegal immigrants work for extremely low wages. If they left, the average wage would go up for Americans, since more jobs would be available. Last week the Union Leader reported that the unemployment rate is 4.7%, which is incredibly low. Get rid of illegal immigrants and many of our country’s poor and destitute will have the opportunity to improve their status in life, and bring that rate even lower. Don’t get me wrong; immigrants are very important to the structure of our national society. My family came here approximately 150 years ago from Ireland and Russia. However, those people got jobs and became economically, religiously, and socially involved with their society, and did all the things a majority of illegal immigrants tend to not-better those in their respective communities, whether on a local, state, or national level. One last thought-the same liberal group of people that wants to keep illegal aliens here is the one that also thinks we treat immigrants badly. To quote Ann Coulter, “If we’re so cruel to minorities, why do they keep coming here? Why aren’t they sneaking across the Mexican border to make their way to the Taliban?”

What should we do about the estimated millions of illegal immigrants already in this country and about the many continuing to invade? We often forget that in 1986 congress already passed amnesty legislation that was supposed to end illegal immigration. Since we no longer enforce the law or this legislation we have arrived at our present crises. I depart greatly from the Normal Libertarian platform position on this issue. Libertarians are in essence for open borders and total amnesty to those illegals already here. The following is a quote from the Libertarian Platform homepage.” The Libertarian Party has long recognized the importance of allowing free and open immigration, understanding that this leads to a growing and more prosperous America. We condemn the xenophobic immigrant bashing that would build a wall around the United States.” I disagree on two points. First, I believe contrary to popular opinion that Illegal immigration does the reverse of what people think. I believe it makes us less prosperous. I also believe it poses great national security concerns. It should be obvious to those who understand basic supply and demand that as you increase the supply of labor the economic demand will decrease, I.E. Real wages will steadily decrease as the supply of labor increases. Not only have illegal immigrants depressed wages, but they come with enormous costs to American business and taxpayers. While businesses do enjoy the low-wage labor supplied by illegal immigration, it comes at a price. Business and social transaction costs rise, as time, effort, and money are spent overcoming language and cultural barriers. “Poor English skills among foreign-born residents cost more than $75 billion a year in lost productivity, wages, tax revenue and unemployment compensation,” according to Ohio University economist Lowell Gallaway. Illegal Immigrants are a huge burden on welfare costs as well. A study from the National Bureau of Economic Research, based on the Census Bureau’s Survey of Income and Program Participation, analyzed the cost of immigrants based on their specific use of means-tested welfare (both direct and indirect), and found that the total immigrant receipt of benefits in 1996 came to $180 billion. Here we are ten years later and that number has undoubtedly increased as the flow if illegals has continued unabated. There have been many polls taken showing that most Americans are against the proposed amnesty bills that have been through congress several times, and yet your venerable Big Brother George Bush continues to try and support this mass invasion by Mexicans. We shouldn’t be surprised though, he is a traitor to the Constitution and to his constituency. It was formerly only the liberals who had a one world government view, now your brave republicans have joined them. So, what is the answer to this Illegal immigration problem? Enforce the laws that are already in place with a larger amount of border patrol, and kill all legislation that grants amnesty to the law breaking criminals. An “undocumented worker” by any other name is still a criminal.
