Bringing Mexican Cuisine to Plymouth

Beneath the ground level on Main Street in downtown Plymouth is a brand new Mexican restaurant. Jose’s, a Mom and Pop-style restaurant, has only been open for a short while, but it has big plans for the future. The brightly colored walls and classic Mexican music broadcasted throughout the restaurant accentuates the basic menu. The wait-staff is friendly as they bring you your complimentary chips and salsa to start off the meal. Despite the somewhat restricted menu, the food is well prepared by knowledgeable hands. The portions are hearty, providing a great value for the price. The cost is relatively cheap for a casual dining restaurant. The meals range from the five to nine dollars per dish. The menu includes the basic Mexican cuisine including Burritos, Fajitas, and Chimichangas. In addition to these, Jose’s has less popular dishes such as Chile relleno and fried ice cream. The restaurant hopes to expand its menu in the coming months to include a larger variety of options. Jose’s has been a side project of an owner who has recently come out of retirement. This is not the first Jose’s, as the business has been around for some 25 years, originating in Cambridge. Although Jose’s has a liquor license and is known throughout the Boston area for its Margaritas, the restaurant is focused on providing both good food and an enjoyable dining experience rather than another area for students and community members alike to drown themselves in liquor. Jose’s is not very crowded at lunchtime, but does draw a number of customers during the night, especially on the weekends. In addition to the number of seats within the restaurant, there is take-out available. Special take-out items include what is called a “Back-Door Burrito,” which is essentially burrito in a wrap that can be eaten on the go, for a mere five dollars. There are big plans for the future, as Jose’s hopes to make itself a place for the community to come and enjoy music as well as Mexican cuisine. The restaurant has a stage available, where they plan to show off various bands, including groups that focus on classic rock-and-roll covers. Other plans for September include delivery, which they hope will provide students at Plymouth State a welcome alternative to pizza and Chinese. Although Jose’s is a new comer to the Plymouth dining scene, the focus on well prepared meals, becoming part of the community, and great value will allow them to become a mainstay in downtown Plymouth.
