The HUB will host adventurers this weekend during the ninth official Econocon. The Econocon is a gaming convention that will host over 40 events, six vendors, and is regarded as the Gaming Club’s biggest event of the year. Doors open at 8 a.m. Saturday, April 22. Gaming Club Treasurer, Raye Harville, has played an integral role in setting up Econocon. “Every other day we get an e-mail expressing interest in a new event,” she said. So far, about 20 people have pre-registered, and around 76 are confirmed to be coming for the event, but Harville expects many more. Any guests who show up at the door are charged $8 to participate, but the fee covers both Saturday and Sunday. Events are varied: Dungeons and Dragons, collectible card games, miniatures, homebrew games created by students, Dance Dance Revolution, board games, tournaments, and a LARP (Live Action Role-play). There will also be a new collectible card game featured called Mage Warfare, produced in New Hampshire by Gogra Games. Tournaments with prizes will be held for Magic: The Gathering, Rogue Trader: Warhammer 40K, Mage Warfare, and chess. Trained tournament professionals will be responsible for the Rogue Trader tournament. There will also be a tournament for artists, one on miniature painting, and two separate ones for artwork: black and white, and color. Raffles are planned as well, and prizes typically include gaming books, DVD’s, and collectible merchandise. Downstairs in the Fire Place Lounge, the Anime Club plans to hold anime (Japanese animation) viewings. They will also be upstairs at the vending tables, and has loaned the Econocon some extra Dance Dance Revolution equipment. Other vendors will include fantasy artist Kelly Bennett, Geeks and Gamers of Meredith, The Wizard’s Tower of Nashua, and DreamGirl Designs, a local Plymouth business. The Gaming Club encourages people to roll the dice, don some armor, and become a hero – or villain, whatever works. Questions and comments may be directed to Raye Harville at psugaming@plymouth.edu.
