PLYMOUTH – This past Thursday April 20, the winners of the Student Government elections were announced at the State of the Campus.
With an attendance in excess of 400 students there was a great representation of the Student Body. Among those in attendance was the 14th President of Plymouth State, Dr. Sara Jayne Steen as well as President Wharton.
Student Body President, Jeremy Foskitt and Vice President, Kat Moitoza, gave an overview of this year’s accomplishments by the PSU Student Government Association, which kicked off the State of the Campus ceremonies.
Following their presentation President Wharton ascended the stage and announced the winners of the elections to much applause and excitement. Following the announcement was what the audience was truly excited for, FREE STUFF! Beach towels were thrown into the audience to kick off the free giveaways and was followed by the raffling off of George Foreman Grills, Super Soakers, and much more.
To follow up on this excitement student band Pay the Piper came to the stage to give an exciting live performance. During the intermission even MORE prizes were given out including the much-awaited Sony PSP handheld gaming unit with an Ice Age DVD.
Along with these prizes a Phillips Stereo System was given away as well as another George Foreman Grill and a plethora of disposable cameras. And to cap off the giveaways one lucky boy, Patrick Dunn, received a digital camera system complete with a docking station and printer, he was chosen from a separate raffle made up exclusively of those who voted in the elections.
Following the joy and excitement of the giveaways Pay the Piper returned to the stage to close out the festivities with the second part of their set and a raucous applause.
This event was pulled off with much effort from the members of the Elections Committee, without their hard work and support this event would not have been nearly as successful as it was.
The following members deserve much credit for their hard work not only for what they did for State of the Campus but also for elections as a whole: Smyth Bouchard, Chris DiVeglio, Chris Lee, Heather Dowd, Christina Labriola, Brooke Thornton, Jeremy Foskitt, Kat Moitoza, and Jenn White.
Thank you everyone for coming and for making this year’s State of the Campus a memorable event!
