Fashion jump starts Spring Fling

Spring Fling opened with a bang last Thursday night at the Hip-Hop and Fashion Spring Fling Jump Off. The Multicultural Society, GMSA, the World Language Society, WPCR, Sodexho, and vice president Dick Hage sponsored the 11 acts, most of which hailed from the Boston area. The show was emceed by Harold “Big H” Roy, a 2005 Plymouth State alumni, and disc-jockeyed by PSU junior Mike Solimine (DJ Mike Solid) of Solid Entertainment. Soulja Ed, Neg Noir, and Hatian born Prento Kidd were the first to perform 20 minute sets. Soulja Ed, who currently resides in Gorham, NH got the crowd moving by inviting some female students to join him on stage. RK Huston is a designer from Boston. He brought out a multitude of models, all sporting urban dresses, lingerie, casual wear, and bathing suits. Many of his pieces were sheer, and while stunningly attractive, left many in the audience wondering where one could wear it. Mixed Emotions came next. The all female group of Plymouth State students cooled things down a bit with an impressive a cappella set which included remakes of many famous modern songs, including one by Mariah Carey. Sam Staxx, hailing from Tauton, Massachusetts was next, bringing hip-hop back to the show. He performed an impressive set, encouraging the audience to move closer and participate. Staxx was proud of the fact that he is the first rapper from Tauton to be signed to a major record label, Silver City Records. Preminishun, the five member female group, who describe themselves as being “like nothing you’ve ever heard,” stunned the ground with soulful lyrics and vocals. The band is currently unsigned.
