Plymouth State University defeats Castleton 37-5

PLYMOUTH – On Saturday, October 7, The Plymouth State Women’s Rugby team played their third game of the season against Castleton State College. Castleton showed up late to the pitch, fueling the Marauders’ aggression for the upcoming game.

The first half couldn’t have started off better with only 8 minutes into the game, Junior Meg Kennedy scored by getting a pass off the line for Plymouth’s first try of the game. Then with Plymouth still buzzing from the first try, sophomore Liz Pearson scored the first try of her career by crashing Castleton’s defensive line. Four minutes later, Kennedy scored her second try of the game by sliding into Castleton’s try zone. Castleton, feeling down but not out keeps Plymouth off for just a few minutes until Plymouth’s scrum half junior Holly Duhamel gets a break away to score the Marauders’ fourth try of the game. Senior Hillary Sheer then converts the kick for an extra two points bringing the score to 22-0. With only third minutes left in the first half Kennedy, scored her third try of the game, ending the half with an astonishing 27-0 lead over Castleton.

The second half began with Plymouth’s kick off where Castleton got control of the ball. Plymouth held them off and regained the ball, spinning it out to the back line where Senior Jamie Howard ran the ball in for a try. Plymouth again managed to fend Castleton off and get control of the ball while Duhamel scored her second try of the game, shutting Castleton down. Plymouth could taste victory and had confidence that the game would end without getting scored on until Castleton crashed

Plymouth’s defensive line to win their first try with only two minutes left in the game. With no conversion, the game ended with a 37-0 victory for the Plymouth State ruggers.Plymouth needed this victory over Castleton, which boosted their confidence for the next games to come against Smith and Keene State College.
