A 40-year anniversary should be a joyous occasion, but for everyone’s favorite blockhead, Charlie Brown, that was not the case this year.
Although the 1966 Halloween special It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, had stiffer competition than previous years, going against game five of the World Series Friday, October 27, ABC was shocked by the severe lack of viewership this year.
Last year, the annual special raked in 11 million viewers, while this year was only able to grab the attention 7.8 million. This was quite a disappointment, considering that the World Series also suffered from a case of poor ratings, ranked as the least watched series ever.
Makes that whole “missing the football” thing seem like one of the lesser embarrassing moments in his already gloomy career.
