Annual Plymouth State University Silver & Gold Soccer Campaign shoots and scores this season

The PSU Silver & Gold Soccer Campaign kicked the men’s and women’s soccer teams into style this past season with the addition of permanent goals, new player benches and dugouts, an officials’ dug out, and new speakers were put into place. Upgrades to the sound system, new videography capacity and improved lighting are among other improvements planned.

Scott and Patti Biederman are among several other PSU alumni who have contributed towards the improvement of the men and women’s soccer program. “Being my son’s [Bryan Biederman] final year, we thought we’d do a fundraiser to get more equipment,” said Scott Biederman, a 1975 graduate of Plymouth State College.

The program has currently raised over $43,500 towards its goal of $75,000. “The initial goal of $75,000 we’ll reach and that’ll go into team support,” said Biederman. What can the program do with $75,000? The program lays out several goals, including: premier world competitive soccer goals, evolution team shelters, a game management center, a new sound system and PA, better game analysis equipment, upgrade existing bleachers, improvements to game field lighting, new signage including the new Panther soccer logo and additional fencing and landscaping.

“We want to bring an awareness to alumni and ask them for support,” said Biederman. Both Scott and Patti Biederman are among nearly 100 contributors who have donated towards the campaign.

“It’s been terrific so far, now we are just seeing where we can take it,” said Rob Wright, the men’s soccer head coach. “We really appreciate all the work everyone did and continues to do. It was great to tie it in with the 50th anniversary.

“There’s a lot more to it than just raising money,” said Biederman. “I was a learning curve. I learned a lot of information to pass onto alumni. I am really looking forward to the next adventure. When you think about engaging students on campus, athletics is the answer.”
